Charlton’s U21s suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of Bristol City on Monday afternoon.
Seb Palmer-Houlden’s second-half strike proved to be the difference at The Valley as the visitors returned to the top of the Professional Development League 2 – South table.
Jacob Roddy nodded over Aaron Henry’s deep corner inside the opening three minutes, while Palmer-Houlden’s scuffed effort was gathered by Ahmed Kone in the Charlton goal.
Tolu Ladapo was then denied at the other end to ensure the scores were level at the break.
The Robins broke the deadlock on 65 minutes when Josh Owers found Palmer-Houlden in behind Charlton’s backline and the forward drilled past Kone.
The young Addicks pushed for an equaliser and twice went close in the dying minutes. First, Ladapo picked out Ryan Viggars who was smartly foiled by Harvey Wiles-Richard and then Dylan Gavin nodded Matt Dench’s cross agonisingly wide.
Danny Senda’s U21s are next in action on Monday, April 3rd when Wigan Athletic visit The Valley (2pm KO BST). Click here to purchase your tickets.
