Charlton’s U21s returned to winning ways with a convincing 6-1 triumph over Watford on Monday.
Terell Thomas, Daniel Kanu, Tyreece Campbell, Jeremy Santos, Charles Clayden and Tolu Ladapo were all on the scoresheet at Sparrows Lane in what was a ruthless display from Danny Senda’s side.
The young Addicks made a bright start to proceedings and were rewarded after just 10 minutes, when Thomas headed home Aaron Henry’s pinpoint free-kick.
Kanu doubled Charlton’s advantage on 37 minutes, firing a venomous half-volley past the helpless Jonathan Macauley after Thomas had brought down another fine Henry free-kick.
Campbell added a third just moments after the restart following excellent work from Richard Chin. The full-back carried the ball forward some 35 yards before feeding the advancing Kanu, who put it on a plate for Campbell to finish from close range.
The relentless pressure continued and Santos soon added his side’s fourth, rifling home a left-footed effort from 20 yards after patient build-up play from the young Addicks.
Watford pulled one back 15 minutes from time through Ezio Touray, who nodded home Max Delyfer’s inswinging free-kick.
Substitute Clayden restored the young Addicks’ four-goal cushion moments later, poking home from close range.
There was still time for Ladapo to convert Charlton’s sixth in injury-time with a cool finish past the visiting stopper.
The U21s are next in action on Tuesday, February 28th when they travel to south east Wales to take on Cardiff City.
