Patrick Casey bagged a brace as the Addicks’ U18s came from behind to claim a 3-2 victory at Reading on Saturday.
Ryan Huke was also on the scoresheet at the Royals’ Bearwood Park training ground as Danny Senda’s side secured back-to-back league victories.
Despite a dominant start from Charlton, it was Reading who took the lead. Joe Barough was the goalscorer, bundling home from close range.
The young Addicks responded well and, after Kai Enslin had struck the foot of the post, Huke levelled proceedings five minutes before the break.
Having exchanged a neat-one two with Henry Rylah, the attacking midfielder saw his effort loop in off a Royals defender.
There was still time for Reading to restore their advantage before the interval, though. Barough was the finisher again, this time tapping into an empty net following a loose back pass.
Casey drew Charlton level on 58 minutes, coolly converting his penalty past the Royals’ stopper who the Irishman sent the wrong way.
The young Addicks were ahead just seven minutes later as Casey converted his second to complete his side’s turnaround.
Ollie Hobden was the provider, retrieving possession in the 18-yard box and squaring for Casey who swivelled superbly to rifle home what would ultimately prove to be the match-winning goal.
