Charlton Athletic U18s goalkeeper Henry Molyneux spoke to Valley Gold for Academy Notes following the 3-0 win over Sheffield United at Sparrows Lane.
The young shot-stopper who joined the Addicks’ Academy mid-way through last season told Valley Gold:
“The first few minutes of the game was wishy-washy from both sides with no one really getting a grip of the game, but suddenly we had a good spell play, making some good early chances but we had nothing to show for it.
“However, they had some better chances but my defence of Nathan Asimwe, Ollie Hobden, Zach Mitchell, and Mason Hunter were solid as a back unit, although I had to come out and make a big save to keep the game at 0-0 before Pat Casey took a great touch and BOOM! 1-0 to us.
“We then took out time throughout the first-half denying chances and trying to get a second goal before the end of the first 45. It ended 1-0 to us at the break.
“The second half started with Sheffield United taking the game to us with a 10-to-15-minute period where we didn’t quite understand how to get out of their press, and we resorted to playing longer and mixing it up.
“They had a great chance when I had to go 1-on-1 with their man in the box, who pulled the ball back to a late runner from their midfield, who then shot goalward but heroically and like a salmon, Ollie Hobden made a huge goal-line block.
“After that scare, it was all Charlton and our second goal came from Ryan Huke and his usual magic, taking on the back four all by himself before nutmegging the keeper to square the ball to Casey to make it 2-0.
“The final goal came from a poor pass by the Blade’s centre-back which was pounced on by Casey to score a hat-trick making it 3-0 and game over!”
