Charlton Athletic U23s defender Toby Bower spoke to Valley Gold for Academy Notes after the recent 6-1 win over Cardiff City at The Valley.
The left-back who signed for the Addicks’ Academy at the age of 8 says he is enjoying his time at the club and likes to go forward creating chances for the team. Speaking after the game, he told Valley Gold:
“Despite starting the game well it was Cardiff that found themselves with a goal advantage after just six minutes when a deflected strike hit the back of the net to stun us. However, on 23 minutes Ryan Viggars deservedly equalised with a powerful effort into the near post after a clever slide-rule pass from Euan Williams.
“With just 11 minutes before the break, Daniel Kanu got his first of the game. Viggars turned provider and set up Kanu to finish from 10 yards following a pinpoint cross to give us the edge at half-time.
“Shortly after the restart, we got our third with Terrell Agyemang producing a fine piece of individual quality to tee up Karoy Anderson who slammed the ball home emphatically from the edge of the penalty area.
“Kanu got his brace just after the hour mark with Euan Williams grabbing his second assist of the afternoon to make it 4-1 to reward a flowing team move. His hat-trick arrived moments later with Miles Leaburn this time providing the key pass allowing Kanu to convert his 39th goal this season.
“As the clock ticked towards injury time Leaburn added further gloss to the scoreline adding a 6th goal for Charlton. Kanu’s initial effort was parried into Miles’ path, and he duly nodded home from close range to round off a fine afternoon for the team.”
