Academy Notes: Jason Adigun

Charlton Athletic U18s midfielder Jason Adigun spoke to Valley Gold for Academy Notes after the 3-1 defeat in the Semi-Final of the U17 Premier League Cup against Tottenham Hotspur.

The technical midfielder started at Sparrows Lane at U13 level and likes to beat players, score and assist goals. Speaking after the club’s exit from the Premier League Cup, he told Valley Gold:

“We started quite well, had more of the ball for the first 15 mins and were good on the press which put Spurs under pressure. We had many half-chances and when we had the ball we were also playing out from the back confidently, but a misplaced pass led to their first chance on goal which they passed across the area before scoring at the back post.

“After no one having any control of the game, it was very transitional until Toby won the ball on the halfway line and slid a wonderful ball over the top, weighted perfectly for Daniel Kanu which he then finished through the keepers’ legs.

“We came out for the second half with energy and had more of the ball again but not too many chances. They won a corner from nothing and delivered a decent ball into the box and one of our players got too tight in the box and gave away an unfortunate penalty. Tottenham captured this opportunity to go ahead and slotted it in the bottom right corner.

“After their second goal, the game was back and forth, we had a couple of chances, but so did they and they won another corner which was delivered into our box smoothly. A lack of communication from our goalkeeper and defence led to a free header which gifted Spurs with their 3rd goal of the game to allow Tottenham to proceed in the cup with a 3-1 win.”
