Charlton’s U18s continued their hot streak in front of goals by helping themselves to six without reply at Watford on Saturday.
The result means the table-topping Addicks have plundered a hugely-impressive 30 goals in their last seven outings in all competitions and 34 in their 10 league games this season, so far.
The visitors all but put the game to bed in the first half as they went into the break with a four-goal advantage.
Toby Bower opened the scoring from the penalty spot after just eight minutes. Mack Reilly was brought down by the Hornets’ keeper in the box, allowing the dead-ball-specialist left-back to step up and stroke home from 12 yards.
Reilly doubled the advantage himself on 22 minutes, meeting Tolu Ladapo’s teasing low cross at the far post to take a touch and put away a composed finish.
The Addicks would have to wait just six more minutes for the third with right-back Oliver Hobden next to get on the scoresheet, stopping to divert Reilly’s deflected effort over the line from close range, while Ladapo added the fourth before half-time, turning in another dangerously-deep and low cross from the left.
Charlton continued to lay siege on the Watford goal after the restart and the fifth came with 22 minutes left on the clock with Sahid Kamara pouncing on a rebound to fire into the top left-hand corner.
Finally, prolific goalscorer Daniel Kanu added to his tally to put the gloss on the scoreline eight minutes after emerging from the bench. Some superbly-patient build-up play saw the young Addicks put together a passage of 19 passes before the ball found its way to Kanu in the box to drill into the bottom left-hand corner.
The win leaves Hamza Serrar’s team sitting pretty at the top of Professional Development League Two – South, four points ahead of nearest rivals Ipswich Town, with a game in hand over the Tractor Boys.
The U18s next host Queens Park Rangers on Saturday morning, before finalising preparations for their FA Youth Cup clash with Accrington Stanley on Tuesday, January 18th.
