Charlton Athletic U23s defender Charlie Barker spoke to Valley Gold after the recent 5-2 defeat at Birmingham City.
The 18-year-old told Valley Gold:
“The trip to Birmingham City was our last league game of the season, and unfortunately, we lost 5-2 after going 1-0 up.
“An early penalty miss from Wassim Aouachria was soon recovered when Junior Quitirna converted from a Charles Clayden cross. But just before the break, we lost the ball in midfield, allowing Birmingham to counterattack to level the scoreline.
“A high scoring second half began with the home side putting themselves in front, but a Freddy Barton volley at the back post put us back level from another Charles Clayden cross.
“A strong finish from Birmingham ended up with them netting 3 goals towards the end while we pushed numbers forward. It wasn’t how we wanted to finish the league campaign, but there have been lots of positives to take from this season.”
