Academy Notes: Nathan Harness

Charlton Athletic U23s goalkeeper Nathan Harness spoke to Valley Gold after the recent 4-0 win at home to Sheffield Wednesday.

The 21-year-old shot-stopper told Valley Gold:

“Three points were vital to both teams, at both ends of the table and coming into the game, both sides were off the back of a positive result.

“The opening moments of the game proved to be a “feeling-out” process in which the two teams showed opportunities of potential threats and chances and after 10 minutes we started to take control, and dictate the game with Albie Morgan receiving and spraying the ball in behind the Wednesday defence, as well as finding Junior Quitirna and Matt Smith in the pockets to get the ball forward quickly.

“Wednesday struggled to deal with the rotation in midfield which proved to be costly as moments later they found themselves 1-0 down due to a Quitirna Penalty.

“Charles Clayden began to cause problems for the fullback with his pace in behind indirectness in his play at times, and moments later,  produced a piece of individual class to put us 2-0 up, cutting in from left to right with a fine finish into the corner of the net.

“Into the second half, we picked up from where we left off and made it 3-0 through Charles again, after good work on the left and combining for a cute finish beating the keeper at his near post.

“Wednesday wasn’t causing us many problems and any efforts were quickly halted by the efforts of Mingi, Barker, Barton and Aidoo. Good combinations from Smith and Junior allowed Smith to get wide and produce a low ball across the box for Ryan to tap home to make it 4-0 to round off a professional performance from us, dictating throughout and controlling the tempo of the game.”
