Academy Notes: Charlie Barker

Charlton Athletic U18s defender Charlie Barker spoke to Valley Gold after the recent 8-1 away win against Swansea City.

The centre-back who can also play right-back signed for the club as a 14-year-old and lists his strengths as defending in and around the box and his aerial ability told Valley Gold:

“We ended up winning the match 8-1 and totally dominated the game from start to finish. We had lots of the ball and had the game wrapped up by half time, establishing a 0-3 lead. Euan Williams put as ahead early with a nicely guided volley into the top corner followed by a looping header by Mason Burstow before an Aaron Henry penalty.

“In the second half, goals from Richard Chin, Tyreece Campbell, a second from Mason Burstow and a brace from Miles Leaburn from the bench rounded off the scoring.

“This result saw us up to second in the league table with nine games to play. It was a very good display from the boys and it gave us a lot of confidence going into the FA Youth Cup tie”
