Match Report: Queens Park Rangers U23s 1 Charlton U23s 2

Charlton’s U23s made it two wins on the bounce with a 2-1 victory at Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday.

The Addicks took a two-goal lead into the break with Brendan Wiredu opening the scoring with 28 minutes on the clock.

Junior Quitirna swung in a free-kick from the right which was flicked on by Billy French and Wiredu was on hand to drive the ball home past the left of the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.

The visitors doubled their lead just 10 minutes later when a cross from the right was cleared as far as Richard Afrane-Kesey just inside the box. He volleyed an effort into the ground which bounced over the keeper and in to give Jason Euell’s side a healthy two-goal cushion.

It almost got better before half-time when Quitirna went for goal from outside the box, but his effort crashed back off the crossbar.

QPR changed formation after the restart as they looked to get themselves back into the game and went on the front foot, hitting the bar themselves before pulling a goal back midway through the second half thanks to a solo effort.

The Addicks had to dig in to grind out the result but stood firm for all three points. The result leaves them fourth in Professional Development League Two – South,
