Charlton Athletic U18s central midfielder Terrell Agyemang spoke to Valley Gold for Academy Notes after the recent 4-1 defeat at Birmingham City.
The box-to-box midfielder who signed for Charlton aged 13 after playing at various academies told Valley Gold:
“Birmingham City had a lot of the ball and posed us plenty of problems in the first 15-20 minutes of the game. We struggled to get close to them and they were successful in playing out which led to them taking the lead. They worked the ball cleverly down our right-hand side before dispatching a shot from inside the penalty area. It struck the inside of the post before crossing the line. 1-0 down. We slowly grew into the game and gained more territory in their half of the pitch. After applying some pressure our equaliser arrived. We regained the ball high and Miles Leaburn dug out a nice finish to level the scores.
“The start of the second half was to set the tone for the remainder of the game. Deji Elerewe was dismissed shortly after the break. He committed a foul on the edge of the box and was, unfortunately, the last man. We were reduced to ten men for the remainder of the game. We stood up to the challenge for 15/20 minutes, but then conceded three goals, two from set plays to effectively kill off the game. We didn’t compete well enough as a team and lost out on too many individual battles. The final score ended 4-1.”
