Charlton’s U18s shared a 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday at Sparrows Lane on Saturday.
It was the Owls who took the lead with 23 minutes on the clock. Alex Bonnington took advantage of a slip in midfield before firing towards goal from 22 yards. His low effort took a slight deflection which took it away from keeper James Beadle and into the bottom left-hand corner.
Wednesday came extremely close to a second shortly after when an effort from eight yards came off both the crossbar and then the post to offer up the Addicks with a slice of luck.
The young Addicks found their equaliser three minutes before the break. Jeremy Santos’ neat through-ball sent Daniel Kanu clear and the forward poked past the on-rushing stopper to make it 1-1.
A tight second half did not offer up much in the way of chances for either side, although Kanu pulled a shot wide from a good position late on, leaving Charlton having to settle for a point at home.
