Charlton’s U18s continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 1-1 draw against Barnsley at Sparrows Lane on Saturday.
Luca Albon continued his hot streak in front of goal by grabbing his fifth in four games, this time from the penalty spot to cancel out the Tykes’ first-half opener.
The young Addicks were given an early mountain to climb with the visitors taking the lead in only the fourth minute of the game. A free-kick delivered from the right was not dealt with and it dropped to the feet of the Barnsley number 11, who slammed the ball home from eight yards.
Charlton were worthy of at least a point, however, and their equaliser came when the referee pointed to the penalty spot in the 64th minute. The man in form, Albon, stepped up and made no mistake, dispatching his effort to the left of the goalkeeper, who guessed the right way but could do nothing to stop the ball hitting the back of the net.
The result leaves the young Addicks in second place in the Professional Development League 2 – South table with three wins and a draw from their first four games.
Their next challenge will be a trip to Sheffield Wednesday on September 7th.
