Happy Birthday, Valley Gold!

Valley Gold celebrates 33 years of supporting the future of Charlton Athletic today, and the continuing support from fans has never been so vital.

Whether it’s by joining Valley Gold as a member or purchasing a Jackpot Ticket, fans can support Charlton Athletic’s Academy in unearthing the talents of tomorrow with the chance to scoop up to £5,000 in regular cash prizes, vouchers and regular discounts and benefits including the chance to watch a home game in the Executive Box in the Alan Curbishley Stand or take part in the Crossbar Challenge at half-time on the Valley pitch.

The matchday draw scheme was originally set up in 1989 to help finance the return to The Valley, which was achieved in December 1992. Since Valley Gold’s inception, no fewer than 108 academy graduates have featured in the Addicks’ first-team – including five full England internationals in Lee Bowyer, Paul Konchesky, Scott Parker, Jonjo Shelvey and Joe Gomez.

Join Valley Gold today to start your journey in helping unearth future talent or purchase a Jackpot Ticket for today’s game and you could win a cash prize for just £1 per ticket.

Steve Sutherland, the club’s then Commercial Manager who launched the Valley Gold Card Club on Saturday, August 20th 1989 said:

“When, in February 1989 I first presented the concept of the ‘Valley Gold Card Club’ to Club owners Roger Alwen and Mike Norris, I obviously hoped but never expected it to be, such a fantastic success story. The fortunes of Charlton Athletic have ebbed and flowed somewhat over the past 33 years but Valley Gold is as relevant now as it was that sunny day at the Training Ground in August 1989. Happy Birthday Valley Gold!”

Valley Gold doesn’t just support finding the next Albie Morgan or Aaron Henry, but provides financial support to enable the Academy’s young players to compete in tournaments at home and abroad, and recently supported the redevelopment of the training ground buildings with a donation of £163,000.

Thank you for your support – and let’s look forward to the next 33 years!
