It was with great pride that Valley Gold found out that Joe Gomez has been called into the England senior squad for the forthcoming international friendlies.
Joe who joined Charlton’s Academy from the age of 12 went on to make 21 appearances for Charlton before moving on to Liverpool.
Gomez could join the likes of Scott Parker, Paul Konchesky and Lee Bowyer in earning senior England caps, having progressed through the Addicks’ youth system.
Academy Manager Steve Avory believes that Joe Gomez is a fantastic role model for the current youngsters. He said: “Players at this academy are well aware of Joe Gomez and what he achieved when he was here.”
“The fact he played in our first team is good evidence of the pathway here. Players can go to play at the highest level and Joe is a great role model for our young players.”
